Hello internet!
I’m Aimee. I’m 26 years old, I currently share a hideously furnished apartment overlooking the Kuwaiti desert with my Irish and Canadian roommates, and I’m a magnet for all things random and downright bizarre. I’m in the midst of scouring the planet and racking my brain to find inner contentment, a sense of purpose and all the other things Elizabeth Gilbert managed to pin down in ‘Eat Pray Love’.
It’s a peculiar life, but hey…somebody’s got to live it.
I’m a millennial. I guess it’s no surprise then that I’ve spent the last 12 years with a deep sense that there’s something more to life that I haven’t quite put my finger on yet, or that the majority of my adult life has comprised of bouncing aimlessly from one unfulfilling job to the next. In true millennial fashion, I don’t own a house, I’m very single, and any savings I’ve ever managed to scrape together have been immediately blown on travelling. For a while, it seemed as though I’d be groping my way through the fog of my quarter-life crisis all the way into my 40s.
But in 2016 I decided to hop off the corporate zombie hamster wheel and do something about this nagging feeling of discontentment. I made (yet another) side-step in my career path and I went back to school to train as a teacher. Last year, right after graduation, I made the decision to pack up my bags and my shiny new teaching qualification and relocate to Kuwait in search of that undefined something that was missing. I mean, the Middle East is as good a place to look as any, right?
Some interesting facts about Kuwait:
- It is one of the smallest countries in the world, but has the largest IKEA in the Middle East.
- It holds the world record for the hottest temperature ever recorded at 54C.
- Despite only having a population of 4 million, it also holds the world record for the most traffic related deaths on Earth. Speaking as someone who uses the roads here every day, this does not surprise me in the slightest.
And so here I am, living in Kuwait and, unsurprisingly, surrounded at every turn by IKEA furniture.
So, now that I’m negotiating my new life in the Middle East, travelling more frequently than ever before, and still trying to work out what it actually means to ‘live your best life’, I thought now was the perfect time to start a new blog and document my many (mis)adventures. I hope you’ll join me as I explore the world, get to grips with self-improvement, and just try to make sense of this crazy thing we call life.
Who’s ready for some adventures?
Psst!
If you want to check out some of my previous adventures as well as some rants and ramblings, make sure you check out my Youtube channel.
Hi Aimee,
I came across your Youtube channel. Welcome to Kuwait. Have you heard of the AWARE Center, they hold various activities, tours, diwaniya’s etc to help expats learn more about Kuwait & Kuwaiti Culture. Check out their website aware.com.kw or Instagram awarecenter or Facebook awarecenter1
They will have a diwaniya followed by dinner buffet on Tuesday 8th May, 2018 about Ramadan: Do’s & Don’ts. Maybe you might find it interesting. Best wishes

Hi! I hadn’t heard of it, but that sounds really interesting. I’ll have to look into it. Finding out about Ramadan would be really helpful! Thanks for the tip.
