The Independent Woman Bucket List

independent woman bucket list

Back in the summer of 2019 (those good old days before Covid – remember?) I made a 30 before 30 bucket list. I was 27 years old, absolutely smitten with the man I thought I was going to marry, thriving in a job I loved, and completely unaware that in just a few months’ time the entire world would be put on time-out.

I wrote that list with a clear view of how the next few years of my life would pan out. It was meant to be a fun checklist of mini-adventures my boyfriend and I could go on as we built our happily ever after together.

The Universe had other plans.

Not only did the whole world close for business (making any kind of travel impossible), but my relationship fell apart…just a few weeks after I quit my job and gave up my apartment so I could relocate with my then fiance.

Talk about bad timing.

That’s when the 30 before 30 list got dumped into the mental trash can of things I no longer cared about. I mean, who was I going to visit the Jack Daniel’s Distillery with now? Who was going to help me build a beach bonfire? What was the point of any of those things anyway now that my life was pretty much over?

Thankfully, with time and a lot of self-reflection (as well as quite a few glasses of wine), I realised that my life was, in fact, not over. In reality, a whole new chapter was starting – an exciting new chapter where I get to be this badass, independent woman who does whatever makes her happy and puts herself first.

And guess what! Achieving all of the things on my bucket list will definitely make me happy.

Will I do it by the time I turn 30? No. Unfortunately, 30 is hurtling towards me at a rapid speed and there’s no way I’ll get all of those things done in just a few months. That’s why I’m changing the whole meaning of the list.

Now it’s the independent woman bucket list. It’s a list of mini-adventures I’ll take alone or with other amazing people in my life. It’s a checklist of things I can feel proud to tick off and know I accomplished by myself.

So are you ready to join in the journey?
