I Got Engaged…During Lockdown

As fear spreads throughout the globe and 90% of the world’s population hunkers down for an unspecified period of watching Netflix in their pjs and longing for the outside world, my little life has suddenly been struck with a ray of pure happiness. Because last weekend I got proposed to…during lockdown. This is the story of how I got engaged.

On Friday 20th March (let that date always been etched into my brain), Cody and I sat down to a film the long awaited, ‘Get to Know my Boyfriend’ video for my Youtube channel. I was thrilled to finally introduce my boyfriend to the oddsquad and to have something to do. After all, we’d already been stuck inside for 3 days at that point. Turns out this apartment is pretty boring.

At the end of the video, just as we were wrapping things up, Cody announced that he had a surprise for me. Honestly, I was expecting him to reveal that he’d finally splurged on the Playstation he’s been threatening to buy for the last month. I certainly was not expecting a proposal!

I got engaged

But there, in my living, with our Christmas Yankee candle burning, Cody got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I’d dreamed about this moment hundreds of times. I’d imagined myself wiping away a single, joyful tear and crying, “Of course!”

In reality, I blacked out from shock. I was so overcome with surprise that I lost all feeling in my hands and, when Cody slipped the ring onto my finger and I couldn’t feel anything, I convinced myself that I was dreaming. All I could stammer, wide-eyed and dazed was, “Is this real life?”

And, as much as it does seem like nothing is real right now, I didn’t imagine it! I got engaged! I am one step closer to marrying my perfect person. And, as much as Cody says he wishes he could have proposed somewhere fancier before lockdown hit, I think our proposal was perfect. Because knowing he couldn’t wait a day longer to ask me to be his wife makes it the most romantic proposal I could have dreamed of. Now bring on the wedding planning…
