Sand Cloud Beach Towel | Review

As someone who could quite easily talk your ear off about plastic pollution in the ocean for, oh, I don’t know, 4 straight hours, it was inevitable that I would become a Sand Cloud customer. After all, 10% of their profits are donated to marine conservation and they have a new range of sustainable clothing made out of recycled plastic bottles. Who even knew that was possible?

But for all their sustainability efforts and dedication to saving the fishies, I was a little skeptical about the $44 price tag on the Sand Cloud beach towels. I mean, what could this beach towel possibly offer that a £7 beach towel from Primark couldn’t?

Apparently, quite a lot!

Firstly, let’s talk about the fabric. Sand Cloud’s beach towels are made from 100% Turkish cotton and are hand loomed in Turkey. The result is that their towels are not only totally groovy-looking, but they’re also much softer, more lightweight and less bulky than traditional beach towels.

I ordered one of their ‘regular’ sized towels and it’s just as big as my other beach towels, but so much thinner that I could just pop it in my handbag instead of having to lug around a giant beach bag all day. This is going to be invaluable when I’m travelling because beach towels always take up so much precious space (and weight allowance) in my suitcase.

Then there’s the comfort factor. The fabric is so soft that I can double up my towel as a blanket when I start to get chilly. This saves me even more space as I don’t have to stuff an emergency blanket in my bag when I’m heading out for a day at the beach.

Also, even after sitting on wet sand, the Sand Cloud beach towel didn’t get so caked in sand that I inadvertently ended up dragging home half the beach with me, which is usually the case with other towels. The sand brushed off surprisingly easily so any mess-related drama could be avoided.

Hurray for not spending the next three days vacuuming up stowaway sand!

While the Sand Cloud beach towel is light-weight, mess-free and super soft, my favourite thing about it is still the company’s dedication to marine conservation and educating people about the state of the ocean. After all, it feels great to know your purchase is helping to do something positive for the planet.

Plus, discounts are totally available! If you’re accepted for the Sand Cloud ambassador programme you can get 50% off your first order.

So, yes, $44 is a lot for a beach towel, but I’d rather have one $44 Sand Cloud towel than six cheaper, bulkier towels that cling to sand the way a drunken university student clings to a kebab. And best of all, every purchase from Sand Cloud helps to save the fishies so that’s definitely a purchase you can feel good about.
