Unbelievably, another year has flown past and here I am, staring down another birthday. The big 30 is looming ever closer (it’s so close now I can practically smell the sensible underwear trying to edge its way into my closet), but this year turning another year older doesn’t feel quite so apocalyptic. This year my quarter life crisis is not invited to the party and I will not spend the day sobbing into a piece of cake. End of.
This year, with only two more years to go before my twenties are behind me, I’m setting myself some exciting new goals. I’m creating my own 30 Before 30 List – a list of things to do and accomplish before turning 30. There was a time when things like getting married, having a baby and buying a house were the goals I was determined to reach by the time my twenties were over. Now my focus isn’t on what I think I should be doing, but on doing the things I actually want to do.
So with that in mind, here are the things I want to do over the next two years…
30 Before 30
- Go white water rafting
- Go skydiving ✔️
- Write a book ✔️
- Take a salsa lesson
- Finish organising my family photos
- Visit Stone Henge ✔️
- Take a hot air balloon ride
- Go stargazing ✔️
- Complete a 5K (running, walking, crawling or otherwise) ✔️
- Take a road trip ✔️
- Visit the Jack Daniel’s Distillery
- Go wine tasting in California
- Finish decluttering all my junk
- Go on a picnic
- Learn to bake bread
- Get engaged ✔️
- Go whale watching in the San Ignacio Lagoon
- Visit The Edinburgh Vaults ✔️
- Attend a beach bonfire
- Take a self defence class ✔️
- Sew a dress
- Move in with Cody ✔️
- Go see a stand-up comedian ✔️
- Visit 30 countries
- Pick my Halloween pumpkin from a pumpkin patch ✔️
- Attend a murder mystery evening
- Watch Pulp Fiction
- Make a vision board ✔️
- Finish the BBC Good Reads reading list
- Finish my 18th birthday scrapbook (yes, it’s been unfinished for 10 years)
And…go!
My favourite thing about putting together this list was how completely impossible it started to seem halfway through writing it. I purposely chose things that weren’t too far-fetched or time consuming, but I still stopped a couple of times and thought, “How the heck am I going to get all this done?!”
And I love that! After all, if I can’t make the time over the course of two whole years to do 30 things that would make me truly happy then what am I wasting my time doing? I mean, if not now then when, right?
So it’s time to get out there and start making these dreams a reality. What would you add to your 30 Before 30 bucket list?
Aimee,
You continue to inspire me, I turned 30 about 25 years ago, but I am doing the same list “60 before 60”. I go tremendo for new fettuccini.
I don’t even know a Cody 😭
