October No Buy Update | Please Send Help Because I Have a Problem

october no buy update

Ok folks, time for another no buy year update. I’ve dropped the ball on these over the last few months because life got a bit dramatic there for a second, but I’m back and ready to talk about all the questionable things I spent money on last month. So let’s get straight to it. Here’s my October no buy update.

Usually I like to start a no buy update with my successes and struggles for the month, but October was a weird one. Honestly, the line between success and struggle was pretty blurred. Call it lockdown fever. So instead, here are the three main things I learned during my October no buy month.

1. I came in waaaaay under budget.

As you’ll see in my spending breakdown below, I didn’t spend very much at all this month. Usually I’d count that as a major success, but the truth is I think my lack of spending was down to being sick with Covid for three weeks and my county getting sent back into lockdown a few days after I recovered. At least one positive has come out of this pandemic – I can’t spend anything.

2. I’m slaying my project pan right now.

Blog post coming soon with receipts, but for now, trust me when I say that my Autumn project pan is off to a great start. I want to spend these last few months of 2020 focussing on using up as many half-empty products as I can so I can kick off 2020 with less junk in my dresser drawers.

3. I think I have a craft addition.

A few months ago, I bought myself some wool and a knitting pattern. Technically that’s not in-keeping with my no buy year rules, but if ever there was a time to make allowances, it’s 2020. I thought that having something to do with my hands might help with my anxiety. It did! In fact, it was such a hit that I decided to try out quilting…and then more knitting…and then crocheting. Friends, it turns out that crafting is pretty expensive! But I’m not beating myself up about it because it makes me happy and it’s not like I can go out and spend my money on fun experiences right now.

What I Spent in October

Now the moment we’ve all been waiting for – the breakdown of how much I spent during this no buy month.

I decreased my budget a little in October to make up for the fact that I did some serious over-spending in July. So in October my budget was £454.

Total spending = £218.21 ($285, 241EUR, 372CAD)

I know what you’re thinking…girl, you spent half your monthly budget on crafting?!

Yes!

No regrets. Other than staying up until 1am most nights this week to crochet. I think I may need help.

So that’s how my no buy year challenge went in October. It’s crazy to think my 2020 no buy is almost over! I’m excited to crunch the numbers at the end of the year and see how much money a year of no shopping (I mean, crafting excepted, obviously) saved me. But for now let’s wrap up this October no buy update and move it on into November.
