I have too much stuff. Too many moisturisers, too many scented candles, too many packs of novelty post-it notes – you name it, I’ve got it stockpiled in a cupboard somewhere. To try to cut down on my embarrassing mass of junk, I’ve challenged myself to a no buy year for 2020. But I also want to try out the project pan challenge to help me declutter my mountainous makeup collection that much quicker.

So can you! All you have to do is take some small steps to change your mindset and your habits. And the first of those steps is learning how to set a budget…and actually stick to it.

Over the last few years I’ve changed my life in every conceivable way. I moved to the other side of the planet for a start. Then I found myself reading self help books, going vegetarian, shopping less, meditating more and having conversations with my old t-shirts in a Kon Marie declutter of epic proportions. But, for all that, I still feel like I’m trapped in the quicksand of consumerism. I still don’t feel like I’m in control. So my New Year’s Resolution for 2020 is to take on a no buy year.

Unbelievably, another year has flown past and here I am, staring down another birthday. The big 30 is looming ever closer (it’s so close now I can practically smell the sensible underwear trying to edge its way into my closet), but this year turning another year older doesn’t feel quite so apocalyptic. This year my quarter life crisis is not invited to the party and I will not spend the day sobbing into a piece of cake. End of.
